Exhibitions often give designer makers an opportunity to explore different designs and making methods. Chris Tribe Furniture have done just that for the MAKERS exhibition. Coming up with an elegant and stylish desk and chair design that draws on their extensive design and making experience.
In the design for the Cube desk and chair the accent is on simplicity combined with careful use of beautiful materials. The walnut is from a tree that came down in Weatherby about ten years ago. The highly figured oak burr is carefully quartered so the pattern folds round the edges of the desk giving a special unity to the piece.
The chair combines traditional and modern making techniques. The curved arms are formed using carefully cut and dowelled lap joints while the seat rails and arms are fitted to the curved burr oak back using steel dowels and a modern epoxy adhesive to give extraordinarily strong joints. On the desk the drawer bottoms are lined in a beautiful soft leather, lamb nappa, while the chair seat is upholstered in rich burgundy lamb nappa.
